Anne Frank - beauty that still remains

"I don’t think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains." –Anne Frank

It is so easy to see and focus on the darkness, the hard times, and the challenges we face. Then we read a quote like this one and have to pause because the author was facing darkness like most of us have never known. Where was her mind in that darkness? It was pointing out the light. She was trapped in an attic with the same few people for ages, but her focus stayed on the beautiful parts of life. It can be hard to see the silver lining when all we feel is the heaviness of the clouds, but once we put in the effort and look beyond the darkness, pain, or heavy feelings, then the sun comes out. It might look like a smile from a stranger or a hot cup of coffee in the morning. Maybe it’s the small successes or making a hard choice. Beauty comes in all forms… and it is always, always there. We just have to look for it.
