"The idea behind a kaleidoscope is that it's a structure that's filled with broken bits and pieces, and somehow if you can look through them, you still see something beautiful. I feel we are all that way." —Sara Bareilles
Are you feeling cracked? Broken? Messy? Good!
Having everything together is over-rated and more often a mirage. You don’t know what’s going on inside my world anymore than I know what is going on inside yours. The amazing thing is that we can be broken and beautiful. Maybe you haven’t seen a kaleidoscope in a lifetime or ever! Google some images. Or think of a stained glass window. Those are beautiful mosaics made from tiny broken parts. Maybe you are just feeling a little messy but are still trying to hide it. Think about the sunsets. Do you know what makes the most colorful sunsets? Molecules, particles and dirt in the air. So don’t tell me that your messy, cracked and broken moments aren’t beautiful because the most amazing works of art come from bits, pieces, and mess.
Still feeling cracked, broken and messy? It’s ok. Me too! Don’t hide from it, find some glue or duct tape and hold on because we are each a work of art being created. Messy is the new vogue. Carry your kaleidoscope with pride, we are all reminders that broken only means beautiful.
