“I don’t care who is doing better than me. I am doing better than I was last year. It’s me versus me.” –The Minds Journal
This is not a statement about not caring about the welfare of others. It’s a bold statement about becoming the best version of yourself! Say yes to that!
Everyone has something they’re dealing with; a “change in the wind,” an obstacle in their path, some sort of challenge. However, today it’s about celebrating you! Have you taken time to celebrate your own growth, the “me” you are now?
Even if you’re just starting your recovery path, celebrate the step you took to start a path of recovery. If you’ve had a setback, celebrate you’ve also had periods of time with no setbacks, and you can do it again. If you’ve been in recovery for a while, please honor yourself and look back at how much you’ve transformed.
There’s no question we will always have a need for more growth—that’s part of life. But, today, I encourage you to pause, and consider your life to this point. Check in with yourself. How are you in contrast to an earlier version of yourself? What things have changed that you feel proud of? How are you different in a way that pleases you? Are you taking better care of yourself? Do you love and value yourself more?
Just as everyone has something to “deal with,” so does everyone have something to celebrate! Take time today to list one or a hundred things that are an “upgraded version” of you, then think of a way you can celebrate that. It can be as simple as looking at yourself in the mirror and smiling, writing a congratulatory note to yourself, or doing a “happy dance.” Make it special for yourself. Be wowed by your me right now, because it is so worth celebrating!
