“There is a battle of two wolves inside each of us. One is evil, representing anger, jealousy, greed... The other representing joy, peace, truth... The wolf that wins is the one you feed.” –Native American Proverb
I first heard this proverb in rehab for drug addiction and alcoholism. I can remember distinctly feeling the two wolves move inside of me. One felt very cruel, hungry and evil while the other just seemed to hide away and shiver. See in my addiction and through my struggles of alcoholism I was constantly feeding one wolf which grew into this massive and terrifying creature. The other wolf was starved, abused and lived in fearful defeat right up until the moment I started thinking about recovery, rehab and a very different life. The thoughts turned into actions and as I walked through the doors of rehab, attended meetings, sought counseling and even into life today… I’m feeding the white good wolf and the black evil wolf is shriveled, hiding and unrecognizable.
What’s going on in your world? Which wolf do you feed as you move through your days? Which wolf do you want to win and how can you ensure that victory?
Choose your wolf and feed it well.
