“People should never think that you have to be a very special person to help those who need you.” –Miep Gies
Miep hits deeply for me. I interact with so many people each and everyday and repeatedly I hear comments like “I could never do what you do,” “I’m just not like that,” “I wish I could help people but…”
There is nothing special about those of us that have chosen to be a therapist, doctor, firefighter, nurse and so forth. We aren’t magical or rare. We are no different from anyone else in this world, we just do what we want to be doing, like anyone else. It doesn’t take someone special or a secret genetic code to help someone in need. All you have to do is act when you see the need. That’s it. Act. Don’t look away, don’t procrastinate, and don’t ignore the needs. Impact them. Use your words, use your blessings, use your smile. Just act.
Nothing secret, nothing special. Act.
