Pop quiz: What do you feel the following examples illustrate?
—On the way to the grocery store, you’re thinking about a particular fruit you’re craving, and when you get there, you find it’s fresh and on sale.
—You’ve been missing your best friend who’s been out of touch for a while, then she shows up and you have a fun visit.
—You took the first available counseling session, but it was three weeks away. A couple days later your schedule changes, you call back, and the counselor has a cancellation so you get right in.
Drum roll for the answer to the pop quiz, please…and…
If you guessed, “the magic in ordinary days”—then you would be right!
Yes, and if we’re “asleep at the wheel” of our own lives, we could miss these magical moments. If we’re only waiting for the “big“ things to happen in our lives, we can miss so much ordinary “magic” (something that has a delightful quality.) So many things are happening in, and through, and around us in our every day, ordinary lives.
I would encourage all of us not to let the monotony of every day life turn into drudgery when we can awaken to the magic in the ordinary days. If it inspires you, start a journal of these delightful moments as you open yourself to the love and wonder in the magic of the ordinary. Then, make it even more magical by sharing it with another—and thus keeping the magical ball rolling!
